Mission Objective
The 2017 mission to Kepler 186f is designed to learn more about the extremely Earth-like planet.
Kepler-186f is particularly fascinating to us because it is within the habitable zone of its star and is only about 10% larger than Earth. This planet is only one of four in its planetary system which orbits around the M-Type Red Dwarf Star, Kepler 186.
The Tycho One Orbiter has been designed to completely map the surface of Kepler 186f. Its onboard mass spectrometer can tell us everything we need to know about the surface composition, while the radar scanner will map all of the geographic and topological features of the planet.
This mission will provide information about the formation of planets around dwarf stars and about extrasolar planets in general. It will also pave the way for future missions to Kepler 186f.
